On July 7, Doosan Yonkang Foundation (Chairman Yong Hyun Park) held a ceremony at the Lotte Hotel Seoul to present the 2017 Doosan Yonkang Academic Award for best medical article.
The winner of this year’s award was Jae Kwan Jun, section chief of the National Cancer Control Institute at the National Cancer Center, who received 30 million won (about $26,000) and a plaque.
The paper that won Jun the award was, “Effectiveness of the Korean National Cancer Screening Program in Reducing Gastric Cancer Mortality,” which was published in “Gastroenterology,” a journal registered to the American Gastroenterological Association’s Science Citation Index (SCI), in January 2017. The study found that regular screening for gastric cancer using upper endoscopy significantly reduces gastric cancer mortality.
The Doosan Yonkang Academic Award for medical articles was established in 2006 to contribute to medical research in Korea and motivate young medical researchers.
