- Signing of water treatment plant contract with capacity of treating 320 thousand tons of water daily provides boost in advancing into global water treatment market - Company successively wins water treatment projects after seawater desalination projects, positioning itself as a total water solution provider Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (Doosan), the world's No.1 player in the seawater desalination field, is solidifying its position as a Total Water Solution provider by winning water treatment projects in succession. Doosan said on June 15 that Doosan Enpure, its subsidiary in the U.K., signed a contract worth about KRW 87.5 billion (USD 77.6 million) with Severn Trent Water, a British Water Utility Company, to supply facilities for a water treatment plant in Birmingham. Birmingham Water Treatment Plant, the construction of which is slated for completion in 2020, will be a large-scale water treatment facility capable of processing 320,000 tons of water daily. Doosan will perform the design of the water treatment plant and also supply the materials and equipment. The water produced at the water treatment plant will be used as potable water by the citizens of Birmingham, the second largest city in the U.K. Seok Won Yun, Water BG CEO of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction said, "Demand for water treatment is surging worldwide due to population growth, urbanization and environmental pollution problems which are becoming more severe." He added, “After winning a seawater desalination project in Saudi Arabia early this year, we were also able to win water treatment plant projects in succession, thereby solidifying our position as a total water solution provider." Doosan, which was awarded Water & Sewage treatment projects in the U.K. and Oman in 2015 and 2016, signed a contract with Korea South-East Power Company in February this year to supply a 'Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD)’ system in Korea, signaling the expansion of the company’s water treatment business.
