Doosan Enerbility Signs Contract with TerraPower to Manufacture Major SMR Equipment
      2026-08-14
      - Reactor guard vessels, reactor support structures, and reactor internal structures to be manufactured
      - Equipment to be supplied for the First-of-a-Kind project in Kemmerer, Wyoming

Doosan Enerbility announced on August 14 that it has signed a contract to manufacture key equipment for the Natrium reactor of TerraPower, a U.S. leader in advanced nuclear technology. Under the contract, Doosan Enerbility will manufacture reactor guard vessels, reactor support structures and reactor internal structures for TerraPower’s Natrium reactor.

Since signing a manufacturability review contract for key equipment of TerraPower’s First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) unit in December 2024, Doosan Enerbility has developed and implemented design improvements to support successful manufacturing, raising the design maturity to a level ready for manufacturing orders. The multi-year collaboration has established a strong partnership combining TerraPower’s reactor technology and safety with Doosan Enerbility’s advanced manufacturing capabilities.

TerraPower’s first nuclear power plant, which is under construction in Kemmerer, Wyoming, will introduce a 345 MW advanced reactor. It is one of the first next-generation nuclear projects in the U.S. to enter commercial-scale construction, which marks a major milestone toward the commercialization of advanced reactor technologies. Supported by the U.S. government policies promoting advanced nuclear power, the project began construction in spring 2026 after obtaining a construction permit from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The equipment supplied by Doosan Enerbility is expected to play a critical role in ensuring the timely construction and commercial operation of TerraPower’s unit.

“This manufacturing contract was signed based on years of close collaboration and trust with TerraPower,” said Jongdoo Kim, CEO of Doosan Enerbility’s Nuclear Business Group. “We will successfully execute the project while continuing to strengthen our SMR manufacturing capabilities and expand our role as a global supplier.”

TerraPower is a leader in the advanced nuclear energy industry, holding design technology for Sodium-Cooled Fast Reactor (SFR)*, a Generation IV reactor that uses liquid sodium as a coolant to transfer heat generated by nuclear fission. Combined with a molten salt** energy storage system, the reactor can increase power output to 500 MW. On top of its First-of-a-Kind unit, TerraPower signed contracts for future SMR deployment and is pursuing additional projects in the U.S. and worldwide.

      * Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor (SFR): A Generation IV reactor that uses liquid sodium instead of water as coolant and induces nuclear fission using fast neutrons, without a moderator
** Molten salt: Salts melted into liquid by heat, enabling efficient thermal energy storage and transfer.
