Doosan Signs Share Purchase Agreement with SK for SK Siltron
      2026-07-31
      - Acquires 70.6% of SK Siltron shares worth KRW 2.3 trillion

Doosan disclosed that its board approved a share purchase agreement to acquire a 70.6% stake in SK Siltron from SK at a meeting held on the 31st. The acquisition price is KRW 2.3 trillion and will be finalized following adjustments to the purchase price in the future.

Founded in 1983, SK Siltron is Korea’s only semiconductor wafer manufacturer. The company recorded approximately KRW 2 trillion in sales and more than KRW 400 billion in operating profit last year.

Wafers are a key material that serves as the foundation for semiconductor chip production. Since all front-end semiconductor processes are carried out on the surface of wafers, wafer quality has a decisive impact on overall semiconductor production yields.

For this reason, wafer manufacturing is considered a high value-added materials business that requires advanced technology and stringent quality control and is assessed as having a high entry barrier. In fact, five companies, including SK Siltron, account for more than 90% of the global silicon (Si) wafer market.

SK Siltron manufactures and sells 300 mm (12-inch) and 200 mm (8-inch) silicon (Si) wafers for semiconductor applications. In particular, its 12-inch wafers rank among the world's top three in terms of competitiveness.

Doosan expects the Siltron wafer business to grow at an average annual rate of around 7%. Based on this outlook, it has set a sales target of approximately KRW 3 trillion for Siltron in 2031.

“Through this acquisition agreement, Doosan has secured a future growth engine and established a foundation for sustainable earnings. Siltron will not be listed, and we will focus further on enhancing shareholder value at Doosan based on a stable business portfolio,” a Doosan official said.
