Doosan Enerbility Selected as Rolls-Royce SMR’s Partner Supplier for SMR Components
      2026-05-28
      - Manufacturability review of key components, such as reactors, to be conducted for the UK and Czech SMR projects
      - SMR business competitiveness to be enhanced by increasing production capacity and upgrading manufacturing capabilities

Doosan Enerbility has secured a strategic foothold for entering the European SMR market.

Doosan Enerbility announced on May 28th that it had been selected by the UK-based Rolls-Royce SMR as their strategic partner for manufacturing the key components to be used in the company’s SMR projects currently under development. As such, Doosan Enerbility will be conducting manufacturability reviews on the main components, including the reactors, which are to be deployed at the Rolls-Royce SMR projects in the UK and Czech Republic.

Rolls-Royce SMR is an SMR developer that was founded in 2021, with its majority shareholder being Rolls-Royce PLC, the leading British aerospace and defense company. Rolls-Royce SMR is currently engaged in the development of a 470MW SMR, which is expected to be the source of baseload power for a minimum of 60 years.

The partnership will support Rolls-Royce SMR’s Wylfa project in the UK and the Temelin project in the Czech Republic. In April, Rolls-Royce SMR signed a contract with Great British Energy-Nuclear (GBE-N) to commence site-specific design for the three SMR units at the Wylfa site. An early works contract was also signed with the Czech utility ČEZ to proceed with the licensing, permitting and preliminary design work.

“Our partnership with Rolls-Royce SMR will be an important stepping stone for Doosan Enerbility in expanding our role in the global SMR supply chain,” said Jongdoo Kim, CEO of Doosan Enerbility’s Nuclear Business Group. “By leveraging our extensive nuclear components manufacturing experience and technology, we plan to actively support Rolls-Royce SMR’s projects.”

Doosan Enerbility is endeavoring to expand its production capacity and upgrade its manufacturing expertise as part of its efforts to enhance the competitiveness of its SMR business. The construction of an SMR fabrication shop is being pursued at the site of Doosan Enerbility’s Changwon headquarters, and innovative manufacturing technologies are being adopted, such as PM-HIP (Powder Metallurgy Hot Isostatic Pressing), to further elevate the company’s SMR component manufacturing expertise.
