Doosan Enerbility has signed a long-term service agreement for gas turbines with Korea Southern Power (KOSPO), signaling its expanding reach in the gas turbine services market.
Doosan Enerbility announced on May 26th that it had signed Long Term Procurement Management (LTPM) agreements in succession last week for three gas turbine units of the Goyang-Changneung and Hadong Combined Cycle Power Plants. The two contracts are valued to be approximately KRW 480 billion in total. These LTPM agreements are a follow-up to the gas turbines supplier agreement that was signed this past February. Both power plants are slated to go into commercial operation in December 2029. The contract term for the service, which is customarily for a duration of 10 years or more, would apply after the plants go into commercial operation and would follow the plants’ maintenance cycle.
With the signing of these agreements, Doosan Enerbility will be supplying the hot gas path parts (HGPP) and consumables for the power plants and will also be providing overhaul and technical support services. Overhaul services involve performing routine repair and maintenance on gas turbine components to ensure their reusability.
The agreements hold significance as they are long-term service agreements that were additionally secured on the heels of the recently won supplier agreement for the main components of the power plants. By finalizing the components supply and maintenance service scope early on starting from the initial stage of the plant operation, Doosan Enerbility has established the basis for a stable service operation, one that is aligned with the planned maintenance timeline.
“The recently signed agreements are hugely significant, as we are now able to cover the entire life cycle of the power plant operation for our clients, from the supply of locally manufactured gas turbines to long term maintenance services” said Seungwoo Sohn, CEO of Doosan Enerbility’s Power Services Business Group. “By leveraging our components manufacturing and service delivery expertise, we plan to provide our clients with stable maintenance services and continuously enhance the competitiveness of Korea’s gas turbine services.”
With old coal-fired power plants being converted into gas-fired power plants and the demand growing for supplementary energy sources to back up renewable energy, the gas turbine services market is also becoming increasingly important. Backed by its local manufacturing and maintenance service infrastructure and extensive project delivery experience, Doosan Enerbility plans to expand its offerings to include not only the supply of parts and equipment, but also aftermarket services, encompassing operation and maintenance services, to help strengthen the Korean domestic gas turbine industry.
