Doosan Corporation will establish a new production base in Thailand to respond proactively to the growing demand for CCL (Copper Clad Laminate) fueled by the expansion of AI data centers.
The company’s new subsidiary and CCL production plant will be located at Araya Industrial Park in Bang Bo, Samut Prakan, Thailand.
Approximately KRW 180 billion in all will be invested. The plant will be built on a site spanning approximately 73,000 ㎡ (about 22,000 pyeong). The company aims to commence construction within this year and mass production from the second half of 2028. Going forward, Doosan Corporation plans to enhance investment efficiency by carrying out the phased capacity expansion in line with the trend of future demand.
The newly constructed Thai plant is scheduled to produce high-performance CCLs for AI infrastructure and networking equipment. The company expects strong growth driven by the increase in global demand.
As the selected production base, Araya Industrial Park has excellent logistical accessibility since it is located about 30 minutes away from Suvarnabhumi Airport by car and is an approximately 1-hour drive from the Laem Chabang Port. A major factor in its selection is that it is the latest industrial complex equipped with operating infrastructure and disaster response system, so a stable production environment can be secured.
CCL is a plate coated with copper on both sides of the insulator, a key base material of the PCB (printed circuit board) that plays the role of a neural network of electronic products. In particular, an AI accelerator that must process immense data at hyper speed basically requires high-performance CCL that minimizes signal loss and does not deform even under a high-temperature operating environment. With investments in AI data centers expanding around the globe in recent times, the demand for high-performance CCL is also growing exponentially.
Doosan Corporation has been continuously maintaining its competitiveness in the area of CCL based on material technology accumulated for the past five decades. The key that determines the quality of CCLs is the “optimum composition ratio” between various materials. Achieving this requires highly difficult mixing technology, including ▲precise chemical bonding at the molecular level, ▲organic interaction between materials, and ▲optimization of material properties. Doosan Corporation is deemed to possess a world-class technical edge in this area.
“To respond in a timely manner to the increasing demand for CCL, we decided to expand the production capacity. We will flexibly review whether to make additional investments by monitoring the market conditions,” a Doosan Corporation official said.
In March, Doosan Corporation Electronics BG declared this year as the first year of business growth and officially announced its new vision and slogan of “making sustainable future a reality with technological innovation”—which contains the company’s commitment to supporting the innovation of customers with differentiated technology, going beyond simply supplying materials, and rebirth as an essential foundation of the industry.
