Doosan Enerbility Successfully Completes Full Speed Full Load Testing for 380MW Gas Turbine
      2025-06-05
      - Operating parameters such as power output and efficiency monitored over three months’ time at Doosan’s gas turbine testing facility
      - Demand for gas turbines forecast to grow rapidly owing to global expansion of data centers and North American market to be actively targeted

Doosan Enerbility announced on June 5th that it had held a ceremony to commemorate the successful completion of the Full Speed Full Load (FSFL) performance test on its in-house developed 380MW gas turbine model. The FSFL test is conducted to evaluate the assembled gas turbine’s performance and reliability by operating it at maximum speed and capacity under the same real-world conditions existing at a power plant. The ceremony, which was held at Doosan Enerbility’s Changwon headquarters, was attended by Doosan Enerbility’s executive team and employees, including Yeonin Jung, Doosan Enerbility’s Vice Chairman and COO and Seungwoo Sohn, CEO of Doosan Enerbility’s Power Services Business Group.

The FSFL performance test was conducted from February to May at the gas turbine testing facility, which had been set up on the grounds of the company’s Changwon headquarters. Various operating parameters, such as the power output, efficiency, vibration, temperature and emissions gas, were collectively reviewed through the test.  Other tests were also carried out to ensure that adequate preparations were being made to address the various needs of the customers, such as the operating flexibility test, which aims at ensuring a stable power supply to data centers, and the fast start-up simulation test, which is carried out to supplement the intermittency of renewable energy.

The FSFL test had been performed on the 380MW model, the follow-up model to the 270MW gas turbine that had been developed by Doosan in 2019. This accomplishment had earned Doosan the recognition as being the fifth company in the world to have successfully achieved the feat of developing a gas turbine model.  The 380MW model boasts of a power output(380MW), efficiency(>43%) and operating flexibility that is on par with leading global companies’ products. When applied to combined cycle power plants*, a power output of 570MW and efficiency of 63% can be achieved.  Furthermore, as the gas turbine model also meets the global environmental criteria, this means that targeting of global markets can be pursued in earnest.
      * The high-temperature exhaust gas from the gas turbine is used to produce steam, which in turn is used to drive the steam turbine to generate electricity.

“By successfully completing the FSFL performance test on the 380MW model, we have now laid the foundation to compete in the global market,” said Doosan Enerbility Vice Chairman Yeonin Jung. “Recently, the overall atmosphere has been swiftly turning favorably to gas turbine projects and as such, we aim to actively work towards strengthening Doosan’s position in the global gas turbine market.”

With the global data center market recently showing a rapid growth, this in turn has led to an increase in opportunities for supplying gas turbines. This is owing to the strengths held by gas turbines in meeting the various needs, such as the timely supply of electricity and ability to respond to the load fluctuation of data centers.  It is forecast that the global data center market will grow from the size of 63.4GW in 2024 to 112.3GW by 2029. As 47.6GW of this is forecast to be in the North American market, the gas turbine market is expected to also grow accordingly in this region.

Doosan Enerbility is currently engaged in talks with a number of data center developers in the North American region about supplying ten or more gas turbines to the region by 2028.
