Doosan Enerbility Secures KRW 340bn Supplier Contract for Key Components of Saudi Arabia’s Gas-fired Combined Cycle Power Plants
      2025-05-27
      - Steam turbines and generators, two of each, to be delivered for the Ghazlan 2 and Hajar expansion projects
      - Foundation of trust built in Saudi Arabia contributing to recent accomplishments, with No.1 position being held in combined cycle steam turbine market

Doosan Enerbility has successively won the supplier contracts for the main components of two gas-fired combined cycle power plant projects currently being pursued in Saudi Arabia. The two projects are estimated to have a combined value of approximately KRW 340 billion.

Doosan Enerbility announced on May 27th that it had signed a supplier agreement with the joint venture EPC contractor* to supply a steam turbine and generator package for the Ghazlan 2 Expansion project, followed by another supplier agreement in April to deliver the same package for the Hajar Power Plant Expansion project.
      * Joint venture formed by Tecnicas Reunidas and Orascom, each respectively the largest general contractor in Spain and Egypt.

Both the Ghazlan 2 and Hajar Power Plants, each with a planned capacity of 2,900MW, are scheduled to be built in phases by 2028 at a location that is 400km to the northeast of Saudi Arabia’s capital city Riyadh. Upon securing this contract, Doosan Enerbility will be supplying steam turbines and generators, two of each (650MW, 540MW), to the two power plants.

“Backed by the foundation of trust and technological expertise that we have built up over the past 40 years in the Middle East region, we are continuously securing contracts in the region,” said Seungwoo Sohn, CEO of Doosan Enerbility’s Power Services Business Group. “We aim to deliver quality products in a timely manner for this project as well, thereby earning strong customer trust, and will do our best to also secure the follow-up projects that are currently lined up.”

Out of the cumulative five-year orders placed worldwide for ultra-large combined cycle steam turbines* (totaling 22.1GW), Doosan holds the No.1 position with a 33.1% market share, having secured 7.3GW(total 12 units) worth of orders.  This includes supplier contracts for nine steam turbines that were won in Saudi Arabia since last year.
*Steam turbines are classified by their capacity as follows: Small(5~30.0MW), Medium-range (30.1~100.0MW), Large(100.1~300.0MW), Ultra-large (300.1MW+)  (Source: Mccoy Report)
