Doosan Enerbility announced on May 14th that its Czech subsidiary Doosan Skoda Power had decided to become an official patron of the Prague Spring International Music Festival, adding that its senior leadership, including Chairman Geewon Park, had been in attendance at this year’s event.
The Prague Spring Festival ranks among Europe’s most prestigious music festivals, boasting of a long history that dates back to 1946, which is when it was first held to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the end of World War II. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the music festival, which has grown to become recognized for the world-class performances given by numerous globally renowned artists, including the famous conductors Leonard Bernstein and Herbert von Karajan, the pianist Arthur Rubinstein and tenor singer Luciano Pavarotti. The South Korean concert pianist Seongjin Cho, winner of the 17th International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition, had given a performance twice, the first time in 2017 which was the year following directly after his win, and a second time in 2024.
This festival is opened every year on May 12, the anniversary of the death of Bedřich Smetana, the renowned Czech composer who is regarded in his homeland as the father of Czech music. The festival is typically kicked off with a performance of Smetana’s “Má vlast (My Country)”, his representative work which is a collection of symphonic poems. This year’s festival is being held until June 3 throughout the Prague region, with prominent figures including the Czech President Petr Pavel and many distinguished guests from the government and business circles coming to attend.
At this year’s festival, Doosan Enerbility’s Chairman and CEO Geewon Park, along with Yeonin Jung, Doosan Enerbility’s Vice Chairman and COO, and Jongdoo Kim, CEO of Doosan Enerbility’s Nuclear Business Group, were in attendance, where they were able to meet and become acquainted with the Czech local personalities. Scott Park, Vice Chairman and CEO of Doosan Bobcat, which has a European entity based in the Czech Republic, was also among the members present that day. Chairman Geewon Park attended the opening reception held on May 12 at the Smetana Hall of the Municipal House, where he engaged in talks with the Czech President.
“We decided to become an official patron of the Prague Spring Festival as we strive to achieve genuine partnership, one that goes beyond mere business collaboration and which involves showing our respect for the Czech traditions and culture,” said a source from Doosan Enerbility. “Upon becoming an official patron, Doosan looks forward to establishing itself as a trusted company within the Czech local community.”
As a member of the “Team Korea” consortium led by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), Doosan Enerbility is currently participating in the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant new build project in the Czech Republic. Doosan will be supplying the main components of the plant such as the reactor and steam generator, while the steam turbines will be manufactured by its Czech subsidiary Doosan Skoda Power.
