Doosan Enerbility to Supply Eco-Friendly Power Generation Technology to Indonesia
      2023-09-08
      - Cooperation to be pursued with Indonesia Power on converting existing power plants to eco-friendly plants for the purpose of emissions reduction
      - MOU signed with IRT, the project owner for Jawa 9 & 10 power plants, on jointly developing green ammonia supply chain

Doosan Enerbility will be pursuing the supply of eco-friendly power generation technology, such as ammonia co-firing, to Indonesia.

On September 8th, Doosan Enerbility announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Indonesia Power (IP)* on transitioning to eco-friendly power plants in order to reduce the emissions generated from Indonesia’s power plants. With the signing of this MOU, the two companies have agreed to enter into a comprehensive partnership on pursuing the application of eco-friendly technologies at the Suralaya Power Plant which is currently in operation.
      * IP: A subsidiary of Indonesia’s state-owned PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and the country’s largest electricity supplier, accounting for more than 20GW of the country’s electric power distribution.

The MOU was signed at the “Indonesia-Korea Business Roundtable” that had been held in Jakarta, Indonesia on September 7th. In attendance at the signing ceremony were Dukgeun Ahn, Trade Minister for South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy(MOTIE) and Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, as well as other related parties, including Edwin Nugraha Putra, President Director of PT PLN Indonesia Power (IP); Peter Wijaya, President Director of PT Indo Raya Tenaga (IRT)* and Yeonin Jung, President and COO of Doosan Enerbility.
      * IRT: A special purpose company that was jointly funded by Indonesia Power(IP), PT Barito Pacific and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), and which is the project owner of the Jawa 9 & 10 power plant project, a project currently being executed by Doosan Enerbility in Indonesia.

Doosan signed another MOU at the event this day, this time with IRT, on jointly developing a green ammonia supply chain for the Jawa 9 and 10 power plants.  Jawa 9 and 10  are currently being built in Cilegon on the west coast of Java island, which is located at a distance of approximately 120km from the capital Jakarta.

“Doosan Enerbility’s various carbon neutral solutions, such as ammonia co-firing technology, hydrogen gas turbines and hydrogen liquefaction plants, will serve as an effective alternative for Indonesia in achieving its carbon reduction goals,” said Yeonin Jung, President and COO of Doosan Enerbility.  “We’re hoping that this MOU will be the start of more active exchanges for pursuing carbon reduction power projects in Indonesia.”

Prior to the MOU signing, IRT President Director Peter Wijaya had visited Doosan Enerbility’s Changwon headquarters last month on August 23rd to tour the site where development of eco-friendly power generation technology takes place, after which the MOU was signed on applying ammonia co-firing technology to the Jawa 9 and 10 power plants. With the signing of this MOU, the two companies agreed to share the results of the research that is to be carried out on ammonia co-firing technology by 2027.
