Doosan Group Vice Chairman Park Ji-won visited MWC 2023 to ascertain the latest technology trends and set future business directions.
MWC, which will be held in Barcelona, Spain, from Feb. 27 to March 2, is the world's largest convention for the mobile industry. As its domain has expanded to all fields based on communication technology in recent years, the participating industries are also expanding to automobiles, the Internet of things (IoT), robotics and semiconductors. In particular, for this year, MWC’s organizers announced that they would include various topics, such as mobility and fintech, beyond the traditional fields.
In this atmosphere, Vice Chairman Park emphasized “Digital Everything,” one of the themes of this global event, and plans to examine the latest technologies developed based on faster connectivity in various fields such as robots, mobility, AI, and IoT, while seeking out connections with the Group's businesses.
Doosan's business has already overlapped a significant part of MWC in many fields. Doosan Electronics BG manufactures high value-added materials applicable to mobile devices and communication equipment, and has recently constructed a 5G antenna module line, in addition to expanding its production.
Doosan Bobcat developed and introduced Max Control, the industry's first construction equipment controller using a smartphone. It piqued interest by demonstrating the operation of a compact track loader from a 980-kilometer distance using 5G mobile communication at last year's CES. Last month, Doosan Robotics joined with SKT to launch an AI barista robot, applying AI and big data solutions.
Vice Chairman Park serves as the chairman of the Sustainable Growth Innovation Committee, which was established last year and strives to ramp up business and identify new growth drivers. To this end, he has visited CES in the U.S. and Hannover Messe in Germany, and held workshops at the sites. After touring the MWC exhibition hall with fellow executives, he will preside over a workshop with local strategy consulting experts, and discuss the implications identified at this exhibition.
Vice Chairman Park is particularly focused on digital transformation, and strives to apply digital technologies such as big data and data transmission between devices to traditional manufacturing sites.
Doosan Enerbility has applied its digital solutions, such as PreVision, an early warning solution for power plants, to domestic and overseas power plants, significantly increasing power plant reliability and efficiency. Meanwhile, Doosan Bobcat is jointly developing autonomous driving software and radar sensors with a specialized company for autonomously operating construction machinery and small equipment. The company has recently introduced autonomous driving lawn mower products at an agricultural machinery exhibition in the U.S.
