Doosan Corporation plans to participate in the largest bio exhibition in Korea and showcase cutting-edge material technology for drug storage.
Doosan will participate in Bio Korea 2022 to be held at COEX in Seoul from May 11 to 13. Now in its 17th year, Bio Korea is an event jointly hosted by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI) and North Chungcheong Province and is a stage where global bio industry investors, executives, and researchers share the latest issues and cutting-edge technologies in the bio-health market and seek business opportunities.
Doosan entered the bio business by investing $100 million in U.S.-based SiO2 Materials Science (SiO2) in December 2021 and securing exclusive regional business rights in Asia/Oceania.
SiO2 has a unique technology to deposit three layers (protective layer, barrier layer, and adhesive layer) of glass-like components with plasma inside a special plastic container. Since each layer utilizes a chemical reaction at the molecular level, it has the strength of both glass and plastic, similar to fine bonding and resolving the reactivity problem between containers and drugs.
Doosan will introduce SiO2’s technology at this exhibition and exhibit product samples such as vials, prefilled syringes (PFS), and blood collection tubes (BCT).
A vial is a container for liquid medicines, vaccines, etc., and PFS is a user-friendly, high value-added product that supplies a drug by filling a syringe with it. BCT is a type of glass tube that stores collected blood.
Doosan also plans to demonstrate part of the production process for these products using a collaborative robot and play videos related to the process and technology at the exhibition.
“At this exhibition, we plan to showcase Doosan’s technology related to advanced material products for drug storage and secure business opportunities. We will concentrate all our capabilities on establishing the business early as a new growth engine,” a Doosan official said.
Doosan also plans to participate in the Korea-Australia Bio Innovation Forum to be held during the exhibition to introduce advanced material products and related technologies for drug storage.
