The Doosan Group has entered the semiconductor business.

Doosan announced on April 27 that it had finalized the acquisition of Tesna, the largest company in Korea’s semiconductor testing industry, and revamped it into Doosan Tesna. In March, Doosan signed a stock purchase agreement (SPA) to acquire equity shares (38.7%), including Tesna common shares, preferred shares, and BW stock units, owned by Aitree Limited, the largest shareholder of Tesna, for KRW 460 billion.

Doosan Tesna is a company specializing in testing the back-end process of semiconductor production. Established in 2002 as the first test outsourcing company in Korea, it currently boasts the top market share in wafer testing.

Wafer testing checks the electrical, temperature, and functional status of circular wafers engraved with 1,000 to 10,000 semiconductor chips in an unprocessed state to determine the product quality. Doosan Tesna's main test products are camera image sensors (CIS) that convert light into electrical signals, application processors (AP) that implement functions of smartphones in one chip, and wireless communication chips (RF). Notably, the company has the highest competitiveness in the industry for CIS testing.

Doosan Tesna will remain Korea's leading semiconductor back-end processing company by leveraging its leading position and competitive edge in the testing field through packaging technology for wafer processing and semiconductor assembly after testing.
