Doosan Debuts Germany-Korea 5G Remote Control Solution in Europe…Demonstrates Remote Control of Excavator from a Distance of 8,500km
      2019-04-10
      - Doosan Infracore and Doosan Bobcat participate in Bauma 2019, the world’s leading construction machinery trade fair held in Germany
      - Company introduces 1-ton electric excavator, the industry’s first…boasting the same capacity and performance as diesel excavators

Doosan Infracore announced on April 09 that Doosan Infracore and Doosan Bobcat participated in BAUMA 2019, a construction machinery exhibition held in Munich, Germany from April 8 to 14 (local time). BAUMA, the world's largest construction machinery trade show, is held every three years to present the latest products including excavators, cranes, road equipment and mining machinery as well as the related cutting-edge technologies.
Doosan Infracore introduced its 5G-based construction machinery remote control technology to the European market for the first time at the trade show. It demonstrated how to remotely control an excavator in Incheon, Korea while sitting 8,500 kilometers away from the 5G Remote Control Station (Control Center) set up in Munich, Germany.
Previously, in 2018, Doosan Infracore demonstrated for the first time in the world the ‘880km’ cross-border ultra-long-range remote control of heavy equipment at BAUMA-China 2018 held in Shanghai. With this latest cross-border demonstration of its remote control technology, Doosan Infracore has proven its technological capability to control construction machinery from anywhere in the world. Doosan Infracore is working together with LG U+ to develop 5G-based remote control technologies for heavy equipment.
At the Munich trade show, Doosan Infracore also introduced its 3D Machine Guidance solutions which can precisely measure the width and depth of excavation work with 3D information supplied by sensors installed in excavators; its telematics technology, DoosanCONNECT™, which can remotely monitor construction machinery; and an integrated service program called DoosanCARE.
An official of Doosan Infracore said, "Visitors showed an enthusiastic response to the company’s innovative construction machinery solutions that utilize the telecommunications technology of Korea, the first country in the world to launch a commercialized 5G service," adding, “We will consolidate our position as the technical leader in the construction machinery industry by accelerating our advances in automation and unmanned technology for heavy equipment, including convergence with cutting-edge ICT.”

Doosan Infracore also introduced a number of excavators and wheel loaders that meet the requirements of the new European emission standards (Stage-V*), which took effect at the beginning of this year. Doosan Infracore introduced twenty-three construction machines in total, including sixteen excavator models ranging from 1-ton compacts to 80-ton super-large excavators, 5-wheel loaders and an articulated dump truck with a new exterior design. The company also featured three types of compact, eco-friendly, high-efficiency G2 engines.

      • Stage-V: The emission standards of the European Union (EU) that took effect in 2019 to limit the emission of particulate matter (PM) by diesel engines. PM emissions must be reduced by more than 40% to meet the new standards compared to the previous standards.
Doosan Bobcat featured thirty products including five types of 2-to-4-ton R Series compact excavators, eight kinds of compact loaders, and a portable air compressor. Notably, Doosan Bobcat exhibited the E10e, a 1-ton electric compact excavator, for the first time in the compact construction equipment industry. TheE10e is an eco-friendly product powered solely by an electric motor, without using an internal combustion engine. It boasts the same output and performance as diesel engines in its class, and can operate for up to four hours on a single charge.
In addition, Doosan Bobcat displayed a compact loader that can be remotely controlled at all times as it is equipped with the Plug&Play solution, a global innovation platform, for the first time in the industry. The company also presented a number of hands-on experience programs such as the Virtual Reality Room, where visitors wearing VR goggles could actually try their hand at operating equipment, and the Augmented Reality Experience, which was made available on visitors’ mobile devices.
An official of Doosan said, "Given the typically confined work areas in European city centers, we featured a large number of zero-tail swing excavators at the trade show," adding, "We will continue to consolidate the groundwork for our business growth in the European market with the competitive edges of our products and solutions, which we are upgrading continuously with the adoption of innovative digital technologies including new environmental technologies.”
