Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (DHI&C) said on February 28 that it received the “Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy Award” after it was ranked No. 1 in the corporate category of the “2018 Korea Green and Climate Awards” presented by the National Assembly Forum on climate change. Marking the ninth event this year, the Korea Green and Climate Awards is an honor presented to organizations and individuals making major contributions to the nationwide response to climate change and the implementation of green economy initiatives. The winners are selected from six categories including the public sector, autonomous government, corporate, citizen, education, and media through primary and secondary screening processes. To act preemptively to cope with climate change, DHI&C is focusing on the renewable energy business including onshore and offshore wind power and energy storage system (ESS) as well as developing technology to cut the emission of nitrogen oxides, a major pollutant, and combustion technology for eco-friendly power plants; thus contributing to the nation’s effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. DHI&C has also participated in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)*, a nonprofit organization dedicated to global climate change; and was given the “Leadership Band,” the highest grade, for the past two years, earning global recognition for its achievements in conducting activities in response to climate change. According to Vice President Chil-gyu Park, who is responsible for the energy and environmental management at DHI&C, the Company has gained recognition for building a corporate culture for a low carbon future through constant efforts to improve the efficiency of facilities and achieve smart energy management since establishing a roadmap to increase energy efficiency in 2013. “Going forward, we will continue to implement the eco-friendly future energy business proactively while stepping up endeavors to cope with climate change,” he added. *Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) : CDP is a global project that aims to assess management information regarding response to environmental issues including climate change, water, and forestry among major listed companies worldwide. The collection of data is published annually as a report and used as reference by financial and investment institutions worldwide.
