Doosan Infracore has appointed one of its technicians, Heiyeon Lee, formerly a senior supervising mechanic (technical general manager) with the production team of the Engine BG, as a technical executive for the first time since its foundation in 1937. It is a rarity for a mechanic to be promoted to an executive position in the country's machinery industry. Technical VP Heiyeon Lee, who joined Doosan Infracore in 1978, is an expert who has devoted himself to engine production for 38 years. He has played a leading role in stabilizing the operations of the G2 engine production line and achieving the accumulated production of some 100,000 units of the eco-friendly, compact engine. In addition, he has proved an inspiration for other personnel by spearheading efforts to establish a sound workplace culture based on mutual respect and open communication. "I've worked in the field of engine production for almost forty years. I'm deeply grateful about the promotion, particularly in the sense that my efforts to build up my personal technical competence and know-how have been recognized," said Heiyeon Lee, the new technical vice president. "Now I will work even harder to become a role model for our company's proud young colleagues." Heiyeon Lee's promotion to the position of technical vice president was made possible by the company's recent introduction of a new personnel management system which has opened the doors for technical staff to develop into a leader at a production site (Site Management Track), as Heiyeon Lee has done, or to become an ultimate master mechanic (Technical Expert Track). Those who choose the first option can be promoted to a technical vice president, while those who select the second one will have opportunities to become a meister (master). Doosan Infracore plans to appoint its first meister at the end of the year. An official of Doosan Infracore said, "The company has presented all technical staff with a clear target to achieve, namely that of becoming either a technical vice president or a meister.
