Doosan Yonkang Foundation (Chairman Yong Hyun Park) announced on Nov. 18 that it has granted 94 million won ($79,000) in scholarships to 92 middle and high school students in Ulsan-si, South Gyeongsang Province and Jeju Island, areas that were hit by Typhoon Chaba in early October.
Through the program, the foundation’s helping hand reached out to children living in the most heavily-affected areas, including Buk-gu and Ulju-gun in Ulsan-si, Yangsan-si and Geoje-si in South Gyeongsang Province, and Jeju Island.
“Given that our children are our future, we should not let their education be interrupted by the typhoon,” said an official of Doosan Yonkang Foundation. “We hope that our contribution could provide the help needed by students and parents in the typhoon-hit regions.”
Founded in 1978, the Yonkang Foundation awards grants in support of a variety of scholarship, academic and cultural programs.
