Doosan Enerbility signs MOU on 750MW Offshore Wind Farm Project
      2024-10-15
      - Partnering with Siemens Gamesa and Equinor on development of the “Bandibuli Floating Offshore Wind Farm” Project in Ulsan
      - Nacelles for Siemens Gamesa’s large-scale 14MW wind turbines to be assembled and manufactured at Doosan Enerbility’s Changwon plant.

Doosan Enerbility announced on October 15th that it had signed a memorandum of understanding(MOU) with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy* and Equinor** on pursuing cooperation for the Ulsan “Bandibuli(Firefly) Floating Offshore Wind Farm” project.
      * Siemens Gamesa is a global wind turbine manufacturer that is currently No. 1 worldwide, having installed 21GW worth of offshore wind power capacity globally.
**A Norwegian state-owned broad energy company based in Stavanger, which is developing and supplying wind, solar, oil and gas-fired energy to approximately 30 countries around the world.

In attendance at the MOU signing ceremony, which was held at Doosan Enerbility’s Changwon headquarters that day, were the related parties including Seungwoo Sohn, CEO of Doosan Enerbility’s Power Services Business Group; Marc Becker, Head of Offshore at Siemens Gamesa and Ingunn Svegården, Senior Vice President of Equinor Renewables APAC.

With the signing of this MOU, the three parties will be cooperating on the 750MW “Bandibuli Floating Offshore Wind Farm” development project that is being pursued by Equinor off the coast of Ulsan, Korea. Once the project is finalized, Siemens Gamesa will be deploying a 14MW large-size wind turbine and Doosan Enerbility will be assembling the nacelles, a key component of the wind turbine, at its Changwon wind turbine shop and supplying this for the project.

“The partnership between Doosan and Siemens Gamesa is recognized as being a most realistic and optimal cooperation model that will help expedite the expansion of the Korean domestic wind market,” said Seungwoo Sohn, CEO of Doosan Enerbility’s Power Services Business Group. He added, “With the signing of this MOU, we will be able to further solidify the partnership between the three companies and by continuously engaging in collaborations, we expect to contribute to the promotion of Korea’s offshore wind power ecosystem.”

Doosan Enerbility started the offshore wind business in 2005 and it currently holds a product portfolio that includes 3.3MW, 5.5MW and 8MW wind turbine models. Doosan is the only company in Korea to hold the dual track record of being both a supplier and operator of offshore wind turbines. An MOU had been first signed with Siemens Gamesa in June 2022 on pursuing strategic collaboration in the Korean offshore wind market, followed by a binding framework agreement for strategic partnership in February 2023.
