Doosan Enerbility to Pursue Modernization of Power Plants in Kazakhstan
      2024-04-24
      - “MOU on Outdated Power Plant Modernization” signed with Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy and KEPCO KPS
      - Feasibility study to be performed on project for environmental facilities implementation and performance improvement of power plants in four regions

Doosan Enerbility will be pursuing power plant modernization projects in Kazakhstan, such as improving the performance and implementing environmental facilities at outdated power plants.

On April 24th, Doosan Enerbility announced that it had signed a “Memorandum of Understanding on Outdated Power Plant Modernization Cooperation (Environmental Facilities)” with the Republic of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy and KEPCO KPS. In attendance at the signing ceremony which was held at Astana, Kazakhstan’s capital, were key figures from the related parties, including Sungat Yessimkhanov, Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Energy; Hongyoun Kim, Chief Executive Officer of KEPCO KPS and Jungkwan Kim, Chief Marketing Officer of Doosan Enerbility.

Under the recently signed MOU, Doosan Enerbility and KEPCO KPS will be conducting feasibility studies on the Almaty, Pavlodar, Astana and Topar power plants in Kazakhstan, in order to pursue the project of implementing environmental facilities and improving the performance of the plants.

“Doosan Enerbility’s power plant environmental facilities and performance improvement technology are optimal solutions for the Kazakhstan government, which is seeking to reduce air pollution,” said Jungkwan Kim, CMO of Doosan Enerbility. “With the signing of this MOU, we will be working together with KEPCO KPS to contribute to Korea’s exporting of eco-friendly power projects.”

Doosan Enerbility had won a KRW 1.15 trillion project last year for building a combined cycle power plant in Shymkent, an industrial region located in southern Kazakhstan. In 2015, the company had won a KRW 340 billion project for constructing the 310MW Karabatan Combined Cycle Power Plant, which was successfully completed in 2020.
