Doosan Infracore's New Wheel Loader Wins Best of Best Prize at ‘Pinup Design Awards’

On December 18, 2019, Doosan Infracore announced that it had won the Best of Best prize at ‘the 2019 PIN UP Design Awards’ for the design of its new wheel loader.

The Pin Up Design Awards is a public design competition hosted by the Korea Association of Industrial Designers. It is one of Korea’s top three design awards, along with the Korea Design Award and the Good Design Award. Winners are selected through a preliminary online application evaluation followed by the main screening process conducted by a professional panel composed of design experts from domestic and international academia’s and industries.

The winner of the highest Pin Up Design award, Doosan Infracore’s new wheel loader, had gone through a complete change in its design for the first time in 30 years since the equipment was launched in 1989. Although it maintains the signature look of Doosan Infracore’s construction equipment, the wheel loader had expanded the ‘dark grey’ color as a way to highlight its flagship color ‘kairos orange’ more dramatically.

The new wheel loader has also optimized operator convenience and emotional gratification through improvements in its interior design including color selection, paint quality, and chair and monitor features. Compared to the previous model, the new wheel loader has increased the glass area in the cabin by more than 10% to enhance visibility.

Most notably, the design of the radiator cover by the engine room has been recognized as innovative exemplifying the beauty of industrial design. A bending-type steel plate design has been replaced by a dynamic three-dimensional design. Also, an innovative technique has enabled the new design feature to be applied to all of the company’s 10-wheel loader models at a minimum cost.

At the Pin Up Design Awards, Doosan Infracore also won the 'finalist' award for its 1.7-ton mini excavator design and the ‘Best 100’ prize for the design of its compact loader that the company had developed in collaboration with Doosan Bobcat. In 2018, Doosan Infracore won the ‘Best of Best’ prize at the Pin Up Design award for the design of its mini excavator, E85, which was the first time for any construction equipment manufacturer.

“We are pursuing innovative designs that can project agile and powerful images for our entire construction equipment lineup,” said Dongwook Lee, Executive Vice President of Doosan Infracore Institute of Technology. “With the premium design wheel loader that meets the latest European Stage-V emission standards, we will strive to bolster our brand value throughout the world, while further strengthening our market position in the developed world.”

Doosan Infracore is planning to introduce its new wheel loader design in the European market in the first quarter of 2020, followed by a sequential introduction of the design to the rest of the global market.
