Launches Doosan DST, Defense Industry Company
- Aims to emerge as global defense industry enterprise
Doosan DST, a company specializing in the defense industry, held an inaugural ceremony on January 5, and pledged to emerge as a global defense industry firm.
Doosan DST, which was held at Doosan DST’s head office in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, was attended by more than 600 people, including Doosan DST President Woongbum Kim, and Vice President Hangseok Um and other company staff.
President Kim said in his remarks that “Doosan DST is a professional defense industry company, which is armed with managerial efficiency based on basic capacity it has accumulated for 35 years and an independent management system that allows for a prompt decision making process,” adding that “We will focus our investments on R&D and the development of foreign markets in order to become a major defense industry enterprise boasting global competitiveness in the future.”
Doosan DST is a new concern, which has been established by spinning off the defense industry business from Doosan Infracore in order to proactively cope with the fast changing business environment in the defense industry at home and abroad, including the withdrawal of the schemes for specialization and integration of defense industries, and to secure an accountable management system.
Doosan DST has been founded at a 200,000 sq. meter property in Seongju-dong, Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do. Doosan Infracore holds 100 percent stake in the company, which has 650 employees. The new company boasts a sound financial structure with 100 billion won in paid-in capital and 58 percent of debt ratio, and holds 495.2 billion in annual sales.
Doosan DST mainly produces armed vehicles, ground-to-air and guided weapons, and precision equipment. The company has order backlogs worth 1.7 trillion won. It signed a contract with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration for the supply of Next Infantry Fight Vehicle(K21), which is superior in prices and performance to similar equipment from advanced countries. Doosan DST is expected to make constant growth, as it is also taking steps for the vehicle’s export to the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.
Meanwhile, Doosan Infracore had completed the process for the spin-off and establishment of Doosan DST through its Board of Directors meeting and general shareholders meeting last December.
